A Native Californian and graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, Rev. Christine Buma has been an E.L.C.A. pastor for 24 years, serving congregations in the Greater Long Beach area.
In March 2007 she completed 8 1/2 years with Orange County Children & Family services as a Senior Social Worker then as a Social Services Supervisor. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a trained mediator.
Called to the position of Synod Supply Pastor, Pastor Buma began serving Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bakersfield in August 2008 and has been Called as the Intentional Interim Pastor following the death of Pr. Steve Hanson who served Emmanuel for 9 years.
She lives with her husband of 36 years and 91-year-old father-in-law in Pine Mountain (near El Camino Pines Lutheran Camp).
